Our Beliefs

Glorious Light is evangelical in its beliefs, holding to the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith.  The following Statement of Faith is a summary of what we believe.

  1. We believe in one God, creator of heaven and earth, an infinitely holy and loving Spirit, limitless in knowledge and power, eternally existing in three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, who is sovereignly at work in the world today, accomplishing His purposes for His glory.

  1. We believe the Holy Bible, a collection of sixty-six books, is the Word of God, a more sure word from God today than if we audibly heard Him speak from heaven, penned by Spirit-moved holy men of God, verbally inspired and infallible as originally written, supernaturally preserved, free from all error as no other writing has ever been, the final authority for all faith and practice.

  1. We believe God created man by a direct act, not from lower forms of life through evolutionary processes, that man was created in the image of God, yet Adam chose to sin against his Maker, and being in union with Adam, his offspring inherited his sin nature; and all humanity now being sinners by nature and by choice, are: dead in trespasses and sins, separated from God, under His wrath, in danger of eternal damnation, and unable to save ourselves.

  1. We believe the Son of God, Jesus Christ, the historical Jesus of Nazareth and Israel’s promised Messiah, is God in human flesh, fully God and fully man; conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, Jesus lived a sinless life, always obeying His Heavenly Father, and, being crucified under Pontius Pilate, He lay down His life on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, and three days later, as prophesied, arose bodily from the dead, ultimately ascending into Heaven and sitting down at the right hand of God the Father, until the day of His coming for His own, and of His appearing when He returns to earth to rule and reign as King of kings.

  1. We believe the Holy Spirit, the third member of the Trinity, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ in all that He does, convicting the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment to come, regenerating sinners, turning them from darkness to light, baptizing and uniting them to Christ, indwelling, illuminating, guiding and empowering believers to turn from idols to serve the living and true God.

  1. We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace, Jesus having taken upon Himself our nature, and by personal obedience to the Law, honored God to the full, whereas all other men, having sinned against God’s Law, dishonored their Creator, rightfully earning the wages of sin, which is death, but by the voluntary substitution of Himself in the sinner’s place, Christ died for our sins, the Just for the unjust, satisfying God’s justice against us so He might bring us to God, by His grace.

  1. We believe that in order for sinners to be saved, we must be born again, experience a new birth, which is instantaneous and not a process, which takes place when a sinner, dead in trespasses and sins, is made alive by the power of the Holy Spirit, He having enabled us to respond in faith to the gospel of Jesus Christ, repenting of sin, trusting in the person and work of Christ on our behalf, and believing the promise of God to forgive our sins and credit His righteousness to our account, and grant us the gift of eternal life.

  1. We believe the true church comprises all who have been justified by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ alone, having been united by the Holy Spirit to the body of Christ, who is the Head of the church, which is manifest on earth in local churches.

  1. We believe that God’s justifying grace is followed by His sanctifying work, that believers, who are commanded by God to die to self and love Him supremely and others sacrificially, will by the Holy Spirit’s enabling power, in varying degrees, through the variety of spiritual gifts, respond to God’s call to loving service, caring for one another, showing compassion toward the poor, supporting justice for the oppressed and giving witness to the lost.

  1. We believe in the blessed hope, in the rapture of the saints, in the personal, bodily premillennial return of our Lord Jesus Christ, that His imminent coming calls for constant expectation, and motivates to godly living and urgent mission, believing that Christ will come to judge the world in righteousness, and God will raise the dead bodily, assigning unbelievers to eternal conscious punishment in the lake of fire, and inviting believers to eternal joy and blessedness in the new heaven and the new earth.
