What Makes a Christian

This is a sermon by Alexander Maclaren (1826-1910).  He was pastor of Union Chapel in Manchester, England for 45 years.  From his ministry there, he became known as 'the prince of expository preachers.'

The full title of this sermon is, "What Makes a Christian: Circumcision or Faith?"  Maclaren answers that question in his exposition of Galatians 5:6 - "In Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but faith which worketh by love."  He lays out the essentials, and warns against external "things of indifference" becoming essentials, applying eternal principles to present day issues.

We have condensed the sermon into a 12-page (4.25" x 7.00") printed booklet tract which is available free of charge.  It can also be read and shared online.  Read the full-length sermon HERE.
